Bay Area Queer Zine Fest
Safer Spaces Policy
(Revised 2024)
Since its inception, Bay Area Queer Zine Fest has striven to positively maintain, support, and contribute to the queer+creative communities it proactively represents. BAQZF aims to provide and uphold a safe, welcoming, and accessible space for all vendors, patrons, and passersby by organizing events centered around inclusivity and constructive interactions with the external and internal communities of the Bay Area and beyond. To ensure this standard, BAQZF prohibits the following actions and behaviors from any and all events and subsequent gatherings it participates in:
Prejudiced, predatory, and/or unwelcomed behaviors and actions stemming from institutionalized oppression such as (but not limited to):
Racism
Transphobia
Sexism
Zionism
Homophobia
Ableism
Misogyny
Theft and/or destruction of personal and/or professional property
Distribution and/or exhibition of materials and/or paraphernalia that elicits, promotes, or defends hate speech compliant with institutionalized oppression
Sexual harassment including (but not limited to):
Misgendering
Catcalling
Uninvited contact
With these conditions in mind, BAQZF asks all vendors, patrons, and passersby to refrain from violating any and all boundaries set forth by their peers. We expect all participants of BAQZF events to be accountable for their actions and behaviors; those who implicitly or explicitly violate the Safer Spaces Policy will be asked to voluntarily excuse themselves from the event and, in some cases, further action will be assessed for participation in future events.
In accordance with this policy, BAQZF will provide this and all accessibility information for each event prior to the event date including (but not limited to):
Transportation information
Gender-neutral restroom availability
Wheelchair accessibility
Child care availability
Scent levels
BAQZF welcomes any and all dialogue regarding our events and mission - inquiries or comments can be sent to baqzfest@gmail.com
Thank you for your interest and contribution to the community and we look forward to seeing you on September 8th!
